Survival Analysis for Multiple Failure Time Data

Multiple failure-time data or multivariate survival data are frequently encountered in medical investigations. These data arise from time-to-occurrence studies when either of two or more events (failures) occur for the same subject, or from identical events occurring to related subjects such as family members or classmates. In these studies, failure times are correlated within cluster (subject or group), violating the independence of failure times assumption required in traditional survival analysis. This presentation will illustrate the principal ideas and procedures for analyzing multiple events using the modified Cox proportional hazard models.

Dr. Zhang is the lead Biostatistician for the Value Institute of Christiana Care Health System, research assistant professor at Thomas Jefferson University, and Affiliated Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware. He obtained his PhD in biostatistics and has a broad background in health outcomes research, public health, epidemiology, and biostatistics. He has carried out study design, methodology research, data analysis, propose research grants, writing drafts as the lead author for peer reviewed research papers, and teaching medicine fellows courses in biostatistics and research methods. He has worked extensively on large international and national, multi-center, randomized clinical trials and observational studies.

Thursday Tech Talks, sponsored by the Delaware Clinical & Translational Science ACCEL program and the Christiana Care Value Institute, are monthly seminars intended to present statistical, epidemiological and bioinformatics methods and how they can be applied to medical research studies. Presentations focus on the technical aspects of methods as well as their application to real world situations.

These free talks are held the first Thursday of each month at noon at Christiana Hospital but can be viewed from your home or office computer. Earn CMEs by participating in-person or online. Lunch is served and all are welcome to attend.

To see the full calendar of events, visit the Value Institute Events page or the ACCEL website, or subscribe to the ID Series mailing list.
